MECHANICAL PROPERTIES TESTING
The mechanical properties of a polymer determine the range of usefulness and the service that can be expected from the material. Mechanical properties testing provides information on strength, impact resistance, hardness and fracture toughness.
Testing for mechanical properties is performed under various conditions. These are:
|
Izod Impact Strength
|
kJ/m2 |
ISO 180 |
Charpy Impact Strength
|
kJ/m2 |
ISO 179 |
Tensile Test
|
MPa |
ISO 527 |
Flexural Test
MPa
ISO 178
The flexural test measures the required force to bend a specimen under three point loading conditions. Flexural modulus is used as an indication of a specimen stiffness when flexed. It is also reported as the flexural strength or flexural yield strength.
