MECHANICAL PROPERTIES TESTING
The mechanical properties of a polymer determine the range of usefulness and the service that can be expected from the material. Mechanical properties testing provides information on strength, impact resistance, hardness and fracture toughness.
Testing for mechanical properties is performed under various conditions. These are:
|
Izod Impact Strength
|
kJ/m2 |
ISO 180 |
Charpy Impact Strength
|
kJ/m2 |
ISO 179 |
Tensile Test
MPa, ISO 527
Tensile tests measure the force that is required to break a plastic sample specimen and to determine how the material will react to forces being applied in tension or elongates to that breaking point. Tensile test versions are:
• Tensile Modulus • Tensile Strength at yield and at break
• Tensile Strain • Elongation at yield and at break

 |
Flexural Stress |
MPa |
ISO 178 |
Hardness |
Shore.D |
ISO 868 |
